Which wood holds up best outdoors in Miami?
Ipe is the most durable and the most expensive, with density that resists rot and insects almost indefinitely. Teak and genuine mahogany perform very well and are easier to work. Western red cedar is a good mid-range option under cover. Where budget or span rules out hardwood, marine-grade composites and cellular PVC give exterior performance without the maintenance.
Will exterior millwork need refinishing?
It depends on the look you want. Left to weather naturally, ipe and teak silver to a soft gray and need very little. To keep the original warm color, plan on a UV-protective oil roughly every twelve to eighteen months depending on sun exposure. Painted and opaque-stained work runs longer between recoats. We tell you the interval before you choose the finish.
Can you build pergolas and structures that meet the wind code?
Yes. Attached structures typically require engineering and a permit, and we coordinate the drawings, connection details, and anchoring so the assembly meets the high-velocity hurricane zone requirements in force across Miami, Florida.
